There have been a few changes within NENG over recent months, which we hope will make the delivery of your EDGE each month and our administration a bit more efficient. You may have noticed that Ken Lambert is now the Membership Secretary, He co-ordinates the lists of members and subscribers and from now on, will also receive and bank payments passed to your local EDGE distributors.

We are making a big push to encourage more residents to pay their annual subscriptions (of £8 per household/ £5 concessions) to NENG by Standing Order (SO) from April next year. Most people still make one-off annual payments, which means that our distributors have to go round collecting money from you each year. This is very time-consuming for both them and us and occasionally a bit frustrating. Please don’t forget that your distributor and indeed everyone in NENG is a volunteer, giving their time freely to you and their community, so we would all be grateful if you could make life a little easier by making out an SO instead of making separate payments that we have to chase up.

For those who haven’t already set up a Standing Order, the new Standing Order mandate form will be available from or can be downloaded from our website at . Alternatively if you do on-line banking, you can set up a Standing Order yourself, filling in NENG’s sort code of 30-97-51 and account no 36208368, but please include the reference ‘EDGE and your NAME’ so we can identify you. Please confirm with an email to, giving your name, address and phone number. This will make a huge difference to us and there will be no need to inform our Acting Treasurer, David O’Connell unless you particularly want to speak to him.

Of course, NENG does much more within our community than just producing EDGE each month. We run Nether Edge Festival; the Farmers’ Market; the History Group (see our new book out this Christmas); Friends of Brincliffe Edge Woods; Friends of Chelsea Park; the delightful Christmas Trees going up at the start of December; new flower planters at the Oxfam crossroads and lots more. If you want to get involved in any way or have any suggestions for what we should be doing, please write to
