Today, (Saturday February 6th) NENG Chairman David Pierce offered the following update on the debate about AMEY's proposed tree-felling in Nether Edge:

A quick update: Following the City Council meeting last Wednesday in which the Nether Edge petition was rejected (and those of us who attended could brief you further about that meeting) it was decided to appeal for donations through crowd-funding in order to make a legal challenge. The link is https://www.crowdjustice.co.uk/case/sheffield-trees/

HOWEVER, things then moved very quickly, many many people made donations, the target was raised from £5000 to £10,000. An item on the Jeremy Vine Show yesterday (BBC Radio 2) with Carly Mountain and others aroused a huge amount of interest. Then an injunction was served and late last night the High Court found in the campaign’s favour. The City Council has 48 hours in which to appeal but for the moment all tree felling has to stop.

There is great delight amongst the campaigners on social media and elsewhere.

For them and the City the last three days have indeed been very significant ones.
